Policy Director

About the Role

Use your policy and advocacy experience to produce outcomes with impact for the Queensland mental health sector, driving policy and strategy, and leading key projects and programs informed and led by people with lived and living experience of mental-ill health. Reporting directly to the Chief Executive Officer, this role will see you managing key stakeholder relationships including Queensland Health and the Queensland Mental Health Commission. 

 Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Prepare consumer-informed and led submissions, position statements and advocacy documents
  • Use evidence-based research methodologies to develop policy advice and strategy to advocate for the improvement of the Queensland mental health system
  • Manage key internal and external stakeholder relationships with team members, advisory groups, and relevant government bodies
  • Contribute to the development, management and ongoing evaluation of relevant projects and programs
  • Provide specialist advice on policy matters and contribute to the development and review of both internal and external policy
  • Other duties and responsibilities as required to support the CEO

Skills, Experience And Attributes:

  •          Demonstrated experience in policy and advocacy, ideally within a health-related field though not essential

  •          Relevant tertiary qualifications ideally with a qualitative research component / or relevant professional qualitative research and literature review experience

  •          Lived or living experience of mental ill-health

  •          Someone who embraces a collaborative, consultative and collective approach

  •          Strong listening capabilities and a willingness to consider other perspectives

  •          Flexible approach towards working in a newly established organisation with the ability to adapt to changing priorities

  •          Someone who can engage stakeholders with empathy, respect, and compassion

About the Company: 

The Mental Health Lived Experience Peak Queensland (MHLEPQ) is a newly formed organisation funded by Queensland Health. MHLEPQ’s role is to provide policy advice and system advocacy for, and with, consumers of the Queensland mental health system, and in particular those who are marginalised or disadvantaged. It operates on the principles of equity, access, cultural safety, recovery, and human rights.
